Lauren Conlon - London Towne Elementary Teacher, 2nd grade: "A wonderful program that explicitly teaches children how their brain works and how they can control their reactions to daily life. The children learn to feel empowered and realize that although bad, sad, or hurtful things may happen to them, they can calm themselves and own their emotions! Amazing life skill!
Q: Did you benefit personally from the mindfulness lessons? A: Yes, Learning about the brain & how the parts function explains why people react...if you are able to calm yourself down then you are ready to make a positive choice to help others...my students noticed a calmer more mindful teacher.
This was an email sent to me on June 15, 2017: “I wanted to tell you a cute story that I think you will appreciate. My daughter's, (who took your class) 6th grade class was preparing to take the Math SOL and, as you may remember, many of the kids care about this one more than others because it is one of the determining factors as to whether they get to take Algebra in the 7th grade. So, my daughter's teacher told the kids they were going to take some deep breaths as a class to settle themselves before starting the test. My daughter then raised her hand and asked the teacher if she could lead the class in a “test-taking meditation”. The teacher said absolutely and she did it! That would not have happened without you peaking my daughter's interest in mindfulness. And now, her whole class has been exposed to it…it’s the ripple effect that started with YOU!” Thanks again Julie!
